Jason Kmet, BSP, RPh
Certificate in Travel Health
President/Pharmacist/Travel Health Consultant
Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy
Jason graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in 1994. He moved to Alberta immediately after finishing pharmacy school and has practiced in a wide variety of settings over his career. Some of his positions have been as a staff pharmacist at an independent community pharmacy, at ambulatory clinics such as the AHS Anticoagulation Management Service and the Southern Alberta HIV Clinic, and as a clinical pharmacist on the vascular surgery team at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. He also found time to be the website editor and contributor for Pharmacy Practice magazine, where he remains on the editorial board. Jason has also been involved in educating future pharmacy students. He has spent time as a member of the Pharmacy Practice Division at the University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a coordinator of pharmacy student rotations.
Jason received his additional prescribing authority and his certification to administer injections in 2008. He was one of the first pharmacists in Alberta to receive both designations.
Even though he’s had a wide-ranging career, Jason has been most passionate about travel health practice. He is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the Alberta Association of Travel Health Professionals. In 2009, Jason successfully challenged the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge Examination in Budapest. Since then he has practiced at several travel clinics, but decided it was time to create a full time travel health practice for himself, which has led to the beginning of Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy.
When you see Jason for your travel health consultation, you know you are speaking with someone who has actual experience travelling around the globe. At last count Jason has been to 20 countries across six continents. Some favourite travel memories include watching the sunrise in the Sahara Desert in Morocco, viewing the awesome power of nature at Iguazu Falls in Argentina, experiencing the Lunar New Year in Vietnam, and cycling tours of the Netherlands and eastern Europe. When he’s not travelling or working, Jason enjoys running, films, soccer and spending time with his family and friends.
