Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy provides free flu shots in Airdrie without the wait

Flu shots will be available on October 20, 2014 – for more information check out www.polaristravelclinic.ca/flu

As of Thursday, January 9, 2013 – We have run out of flu vaccine in the injection form, but we still have it in the nasal spray form.  Alberta Health announced that they will be keeping all remaining doses of vaccine for their own mass clinics and public health offices.  Once we use up our remaining doses of nasal spray we will not be receiving any further vaccine this flu season.

Healthy Albertans from age 9 to 59 can receive the nasal spray version of the flu vaccine at our clinic.   The following people should not receive the nasal spray version:

  • have severe asthma
  • have a weak immune system (either a medical condition or on medications that weaken the immune system)
  • are pregnant
  • have received a live vaccine in the past 4 weeks
  • have an egg allergy
  • have a history of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to the influenza vaccine or any part of it
  • have had a severe reaction to the influenza vaccine in the past (e.g., trouble breathing)
  • are younger than 2 or older than 59
  • are 2 years up to 18 years and take aspirin or medicine with aspirin in it
  • are a healthcare provider, worker, or caregiver who works with people with weak immune systems

If you would like to request an appointment to receive the nasal spray, call 403-980-TRIP (8747) or fill in the form located on this page:  https://www.polaristravelclinic.ca/flu-shots/

Please note we can only provide flu vaccines to children 9 years and older.

MEDIA RELEASE

POLARIS TRAVEL CLINIC AND PHARMACY GIVING FREE FLU SHOTS WITHOUT THE WAIT

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With the recent outbreak of H1N1 in southern Alberta, Albertans are being urged to get a flu shot if they have not done so already.  Several hour waits are being reported at the mass clinics in Calgary.  Airdrie’s Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy would like to remind residents of Airdrie and area that they have a local convenient option for getting a free flu shot.

At Polaris, you can book an appointment for a flu shot or you can drop in when the clinic is open.  “We are able to book flu shot appointments for the same day, and we are extending our hours to accommodate the increased demand,” said owner/pharmacist Jason Kmet.

This year’s flu shot provides protection against the H1N1 strain, which is the version that has resulted in nearly one thousand confirmed cases of influenza in Alberta this flu season.

Flu shots are available at Polaris for all Albertans 9 years and older.  Children from 9-17 have the option of receiving the flu vaccine by nasal spray instead of the traditional injection.

Avoid the drive into Calgary on snowy roads and the wait at the mass clinics.  Book an appointment and get your flu shot done in a quiet, private, and clinical setting without having to wait.
