Pharmacy Student Summer Job 2015

Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy is a pharmacy/travel clinic located in Airdrie. We are now accepting applications for a pharmacy student for the summer.

Our pharmacy focuses on travel health. Pharmacists with travel health training, additional prescribing authority, and their immunization certification see patients in advance of their travel. They provide consultations, immunizations, prescriptions and other travel-related retail items. Our office looks and feels like a physician’s office and bears little resemblance to a typical community pharmacy.

Responsibilities:
 Working with our pharmacists to ensure that patients receive proper education. You will have a chance to sit in on travel health consults and work on your counselling skills.
 Dispensing duties regarding the preparation of prescriptions. We are not a high volume dispensary but you will have an opportunity to practice these skills.
 Providing vaccinations to patients (if certified to provide immunizations).
 Some reception activities such as answering the phone and scheduling appointments.
 Assisting in the development of non-travel cognitive pharmacy services.
 Marketing and promotion of pharmacy clinical services to health care professionals, businesses, and other organizations (only if successful candidate is interested).
 Management of social media accounts and/or updating our website (if interested).

The clinic is open Wednesday to Saturday and some Saturday morning shifts will be scheduled. The position will be for 30 hours per week. Some hours may involve doing project work outside the clinic on a flexible schedule. Start date could be as early as the beginning of May and the finish date can be as late as end of August. We are looking for the best candidates possible, and are willing to adjust the number of weeks of the position as well as start and finish dates in order to accommodate this.

Applicants should be outgoing, flexible, organized, and are interested in travel medicine. Innovative thinkers with a lot of ideas and intellectual curiosity are a good fit. We are more interested in these characteristics than how many years you have completed in the pharmacy program.

We will provide a unique practice environment, good working conditions, an opportunity to advance your skills, and a chance to be involved in developing clinical ideas and programs into actual practice.

Please send in your application to Jason Kmet by email to jason(at)polaristravelclinic.ca or by fax to 403-980-9042.
