Charity for summer 2013 selected

Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy donates $1 for every vaccine given at our clinic to a charity.

From January to April our selected charity was Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). We are happy to report that Polaris donated $215 to MSF as a result of this program.

We have chosen Carpenters4Cambodia as our charity for the period of May 2013 to August 2013. This organization is based in Airdrie and was recently featured in Airdrie Life magazine.

From the Carpenters4Cambodia website:
We are a fledgling Canadian charity whose mandate is to build and repair orphanages, schools and family homes for the poor and handicapped people of Cambodia.

We are currently a small, three man operation possessing the right combination of skills, knowledge, local street-sense, and single minded determination to help the people of Cambodia. We want to improve living conditions through not only our building projects but also by teaching impoverished Cambodian youths the trades required to do it themselves.

Vulnerable groups like the elderly, the handicapped and the staggering number of abandoned children in Cambodia live on the knife’s edge between death and survival. These are the desperate, the forgotten, and the sickeningly exploited. Our previous visits to the country have shown us that there is a desperate need for an organisation—like ours—that can specialise in small, immediate, low cost aid projects that fill in the cracks left by large NGO’s with much broader mandates.
